“Sissy Style” Article wins 2024 Marcia Herndon Award

I’m delighted to report that my article, “‘Sissy Style’: Gender, Race, and Sexuality in New Orleans Bounce Dance,” which was published in the Journal of Popular Music Studies in September 2023 has been recently awarded the 2024 Marcia Herndon Article Award for exceptional ethnomusicological work in gender and sexuality by the Gender and Sexuality Section of the Society for Ethnomusicology! I’m very grateful to the editors of the journal, the peer reviewers who provided feedback, and to the prize committee. If you have a subscription to JPMS, you can access the article here: https://online.ucpress.edu/jpms/article-abstract/35/3/61/196983/Sissy-Style-Gender-Race-and-Sexuality-in-New?redirectedFrom=fulltext.

I earned an Honorable Mention for this award in 2020 for my article, “Who Slays? Queer Resonances in Beyoncé’s Lemonade” (Popular Music and Society).
